The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) warned about risks associated with virtual assets like money laundering and terrorism financing, stressing the need for urgent global action. They urged countries to strengthen measures against illicit finance of cryptocurrencies, noting that regulatory gaps could have widespread impacts. Despite some progress in regulating virtual assets, many jurisdictions still need to do more. Only 40 out of 138 evaluated jurisdictions were deemed compliant with FATF standards in April 2025.
