Spar, one of the most popular retail franchises in the world, has accepted Bitcoin as a form of payment in a supermarket in Zug, Switzerland, according to a recent adfx.swiss, a Swiss company that facilitates implementation.
The payment solution developed by DFX.SWiss allows customers to pay directly at the cashier using Bitcoin via Lnurl, an open standard for peers for cryptographic payments in person.
LNURL (Lightning Network URL) is a protocol that simplifies interactions on the Lightning Bitcoin network. It allows payments, withdrawals and transparent authentications via coded URLs or QR codes.
Images shared by Rahim Taghizadegan, an Austrian-Iranian economist and Bitcoin defender, shows that customers can now choose to pay with Bitcoin directly at the dungeon terminal by analyzing a QR code with their phones and finishing payment in seconds.

Key player in European retail sales with more than 13,900 stores in 48 countries, Spar has operated for more than six decades, serving more than 14 million customers per day.
With its passage to Crypto, the popular brand is now part of the Swiss growing list of more than 1,013 companies already adopting Bitcoin, according to BTCMAP. Taghizadegan said it was Spar’s cryptographic payment implementation in the country, but it may not be the last.
“If enough people use it, it can be deployed throughout the country,” said Taghizadegan.
Switzerland is recognized as one of the most friendly jurisdictions in Europe. Supported by a clear and favorable regulatory framework, the country has become a center for DEFI projects and digital asset funds.
Since December 2024, Lugano, a Swiss city, has enabled residents and companies to pay for municipal services and taxes using bitcoin and attachment. Payments are activated via a Swiss Bill QR supported by the Swiss Bitcoin Automated System.
Switzerland is among the most fiscal European countries for private cryptography investors, because capital gains are in tax franchise and that only a small wealth tax applies.
