President Donald Trump today signed legislation canceling an IRS rule which would have required decentralized financing platforms (DEFI) to report cryptographic transaction data and collect information on customers, according to a press release published by representative Mike Carey, who presented the bill alongside Senator Ted Cruz last December.
“This is the first cryptocurrency bill never signed and the first law of disapproval of the revision of the Tax Congress (ARC) was reported,” the statement said.
“The Defi Courtier rule unnecessarily embarrassed American innovation, breaks the privacy of everyday Americans, and had to overwhelm the IRS with an overflow of new files according to which it does not have the infrastructure to manage during the tax season. Bureaucratic hedges, โsaid representative Carey. “I thank President Trump for signing this important bill and cryptographic TSAR bags for his leadership to support the continuation of America as a world leader in emerging cryptographic industry.”
The measure, also known as HJRES.25, aims to make the “raw reports of the IRS by brokers who regularly provide services effecting sales of digital assets”.
This rule, introduced in the last days of the term of Biden, has expanded the definition of “broker” to include non -guardian entities such as DEFI platforms and commercial front service providers.
As part of the extended scope, DEFI projects should point out the gross products of crypto sales and collect taxpayers data, including identities and transaction stories.
The promulgation of the resolution means that the rule “will have no strength or effect”, immediately repealing the requirements for DEFI platforms and other digital asset brokers to declare the gross sales product on the form-1099.
Its repeal reduces the charges of conformity criticized as impracticable and stifling by many members of the cryptography sector, such as the Blockchain Association.
The measure erased the Senate on March 4 before spending the room the following week. However, given the link of the measure to a budgetary case, a final vote in the Senate was necessary before its transmission to the president.
On March 26, the Senate voted to repeal the controversial rule of cryptography tax.
Under the Congressional Review Act, the IRS cannot issue a substantially similar rule without a new authorization from the Congress. This prevents the agency from re -implicating the requirements of comparable reports on digital asset brokers without explicit conference approval.
Trump’s signature is aligned with the deregulation position for his administration, in particular towards emerging technologies such as the crypto, which he has increasingly adopted during his campaign in 2024 and the second mandate.
The White House approved the resolution, affirming in a declaration of March 4 according to which the rule of the Biden era has a negative impact on American innovation, raises serious confidentiality problems linked to the information of taxpayers and grants an unreasonable burden of compliance with DEFI companies.
